Rock & Roll (process)

Step-by-step process for the Rock & Roll ferris wheel painting.IMG_3881

Process

Day One:

The original image...

The roto-scoped illustrator file, printed on canvas then stretched, serves as the underpainting...

Sky and water palate...

Roughing in the background...

Filling in the water and gaps...

Sunset is mostly finished...

Ready for the pier and detailing...

Started to outline the structure. Called it a day instead.

Day Two:

Dark palate for the pier and silhouetted details on the ferris wheel...

Blocking in the pier shadows and highlights.

Resumed details on the ferris wheel...

Starting to add more colors to the base of the wheel and some of the surrounding structures...

Rock & Roll!

Starting to block out some of the surrounding buildings, roller coaster. That took forever. End of day two.

Day Three

Image color is off on this pic, finished most of the detail on the pier/ferris wheel/amusement park. Almost there...

Day Four

Months have passed since the last time I worked on this. I offered it up for auction to help raise money to rebuild my friend's bar that was flooded by Superstorm Sandy. It was purchased in the silent auction, so I had to finish it ASAP.
